Certainly there are 100 ways to filter Debian messages into a separate
spool or folder.

The original poster wanted a newsgroup, I assume, so that he/she could
read a high-volume list as if it were USENET instead of email: that is,
so threading was managed properly, so articles were kept around for some
amount of time then expired, etc.

My point was that if you read the mailing list using Gnus, then for all
practical purposes is _will_ look like a newsgroup: threading,
auto-expiry, etc.

Obviously this won't help with the bandwidth situation, but...
