CD Rom eject problem, Dselect cd-rom option

I installed the eject program through dselect and I receive this message
when I try to use it:

eject: unable to eject, last error: Inappropriate ioctl for device

The CD-rom drive is a Memorex 40X that is ATAPI compatible and has worked
with the eject program before. Is there anyway to get that program to
work?

Also, I installed Debian 2.2 from scratch of off floppy diskettes and ftp.
I just bought some Debian CD's and when I tried to use dselect, there is
no option for CD-ROM as the media or "access" type. Dselect offers me nfs,
floppy, ftp, and apt access methods. Is there anyway that CD-ROM can be
added to dselect?

Suggestions please!
