If you want modules to be auto-inserted on demand I would suggest doing
so, yes.

Not quiet. CONFIG_KMOD enables the kernel to auto load modules, and it
works the same way as the old kerneld did. If you don't enable it you
will have to manually modprobe modules to insert them.
