magicfilter and smb

Has anyone got magicfilter to work on a remote (Windows NT) printer
using samba.  I tried following the directions in the SMB Howto but
had no success.  I can print files manually using smbclient, but when
I try using lpr (actually lprng) as described in the howto nothing 
prints and I get no error messages.
