I would answer "no" to your question.  I've done two slink to potato
upgrades and it went very well.  Of course the kernel is not
upgraded automatically, so that needs to be done manually with dselect,
or your favorite.  Back-up all of your data from your home directory
and your config files from /etc and give it a try.  IMO potato is
much nicer than slink.
