Kernel warning/error messages

The following messages have been appearing in my /var/log/messages file
since I upgraded to the 2.2.16 kernel yesterday:

My CD-ROM drive (Creative 52x) is on /dev/hdc:
@phoenix:[/home/ssahmed] dir /dev/cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Jan 29 01:21 /dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdc
Has anyone else seen this either with 2.2.16 or before ? My system is
woody, and the kernel was compiled with gcc-2.95.2.
