If you search the list archives you will find a thing or two about
this. It sounds like your HD is going out. What type of drive is it?
When I had a drive go bad it did so gradually until one day I couldn't
access it. I let it sit for a week or so and accidentally booted into
it and it worked. Which I understand happens occasionally. I got my
info and sent the disk back.
