ahemm, and it should have the proper ip-address (127.0.0.1/8).

where you should find:

bash-2.03# egrep lo /etc/init.d/network                              
ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
route add -net 127.0.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 lo

I don´t think that it´s actually required to explicitly add the route,
but then, I´m more familiar with cisco routers than with linux ;-)
