The best way is to have identical disks, so you don´t have to worry about
lilo, partitions or anything else, just
  dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb

IMHO this is also the best way to backup NT, just insert tomsrtbt
<http://www.toms.net/rb/home.html>, boot, dd, and don´t mind anything.
In case of OS weirdness just dd the other way ;-)
