       --color[=WHEN]
control whether	color is used to distinguish file

I have this in my $HOME/.bashrc:

export LS_OPTIONS='--color=auto'
eval `dircolors`
alias ls='ls -F $LS_OPTIONS' #The -F appends a character for type.
alias ll='ls $LS_OPTIONS -l'
alias l='ls $LS_OPTIONS -lA'
