1) Is this problem exists when you are trying to connect to your ISP as root?
2) Does root been able to use the port with a com software loke minicom?
3) I believe that the Modem-HOWTO is a good reference.

Whenever I try to connect to my ISP I get:

Cannot open /dev/ttyS1 : Input/output error

How can I get this solved?
