The kernel-iamge-2.2.14-compcat package and hardware detection?

After installing kernel-iamge-2.2.14-compcat I am getting:

I wonder if this is standard or that it has something to do with the fact that
my NIC probably has a VIA chip which I can't get fully to work? I am currently
using the ne module because my NIC is an ISA card and so I believe it can not
have the via-rhine chip.
