I believe that you need to install the SVGA server and rerun xf86config.  The 
Nvidia Riva Ultra TNT2 is supported by xfree86 version 3.3.6, which you 
apparently have.  The vga16 server does not support your chipset nor does it 
correctly read your videoram.
The Debian package for the SVGA server is called xserver-svga.
