You mean like "ham", "slink", "potato" or "woody"?

I believe that "stable" and "unstable" are symbolic links to what ever is stable or unstable at the moment.

If you want the most current stable version - point to stable. If you want the bleeding-edge - point to unstable. If you want to follow the development of potato - point to potato. Works for me.
