modem permissions

First time I`ve had to come back for a while!
I`m trying to set up minicom but I can`t access the modem. Here`s the relevant info:

bash-2.03$ minicom
minicom: cannot open /dev/ttyS2: Permission denied
bash-2.03$ ls -l /dev/ttyS2
crw-r----- 1 root dialout 4, 66 Jan 16 19:23 /dev/ttyS2
bash-2.03$ groups
paul mail dialout dip

I thought these permissions were correct for the device. Am I missing something obvious?
