question regarding stable and unstable dists

Hello,

 I would like to know if unstable packages can be used with slink? because 
I am currently using slink and would like to try out sawmill window-manager 
but the sawmill window manager depends on packages that are on the unstable 
dists instead of the stable ones or can I just use  the packages from slink 
instead the required ones from potato but just a different release?

Will there be any problems with this?
