Oh, I didn't realise you needed make-kpkg clean - I have never used this
command, I have always gone from make xconfig to make-kpkg kernel-image
. . . I have successfully created dozens of kernel images this way,
including the latest 2.2.12

Having said that, I am concerned I am not using a necessary command.
What effect would me not using it have?
