You need to find out what kind of mouse it is, since your laptop is modern
i bet it is a PS/2 mouse, and you are probably using the wrong protocol
which makes it jumpy, use XF86Setup, and play around with the options in
the mouse screen, But it may also be a serial mouse. For serial mice (on
port ttyS#) the usual protocol is the Microsoft protocol, for ps/2 there
are tons of different protocols its really much more mouse specific, but,
play till you can get it working, OR play till you have exausted all the
options in XF86Setup.
Warning: doing this may lock your computer up, don't be alarmed if it
hangs, just reboot and try again. Sometimes hardware doesn't like being
told it is something it isn't.
