Refresh rates, monitor resolution, modelines and such
I've been trying to get some performance out of my ViewSonic
GT755. It's capable of doing
1600x1200 @ 69
1280x1024 @ 80
1152x870 @ 94
1024x768 @ 106
I went to the online modeline generator, entered the monitor's params
and got some modelines for the modes I wanted:
Modeline "640x480" 74.54 640 672 832 896 480 482 494 520 #160Hz
Modeline "800x600" 96.05 800 840 1040 1120 600 602 614 640 #134Hz
ModeLine "1024x768" 120.59 1024 1072 1312 1408 768 770 782 808 #106Hz
Modeline "1152x870" 131.38 1152 1200 1440 1536 870 872 884 910 #94Hz
Modeline "1280x960" 131.38 1280 1336 1616 1728 960 962 974 1000 #86Hz
Modeline "1280x1024" 147.08 1280 1336 1616 1728 1024 1026 1038 1064 #80Hz
Modeline "1600x1200" 186.17 1600 1672 2032 2176 1200 1202 1214 1240 #69Hz
Well, the only one that seems to work is the 1152x768. :( All others
get discarded, I guess (I have them all entered in the "Display"
subsections). Several questions:
1. Can I somehow compute my own modelines? What info would I need for
that? Any online sources?
2. When I run xvidtune, the horisontal and vertical syncs that it
shows differ from those that the monitor displays via on-screen
display. For instance, right now xvidtune reports
Horis. 85.53KHz, Vert. 93.99Hz, mode 1152x768
whereas on the OSD I see:
Horis. 80.53KHz, Vert. 89Hz.
What's up with that?
3. A dumb question: is refresh rate = vertical sync frequency?
4. If not, can the refresh rate be computed from the on-screen
vert. and horis. syncs?
5. Since I can get all the desired resolutions/refresh rates under
Windows, can I use any information collected under Win to help me
with configuring XF86Config?
Thanks a lot for any input!
