scsi cards

i'm looking to move my desktop machine to scsi soon and was wondering what
some good reliable scsi cards are

i imagine the adaptec 2940 u2w is good.. but what about the 2940 u2 ?
or solutions from other manufacturers?

i'm also interested in maybe running raid since it would reduce the amount
of backups i'd need to do.. providing i could find a workable solution
that isn't too expensive.. thanks.
