off-topic: quick LaTeX question

I'm writing a LaTeX document that contains two very similar tables
which I would like to have side-by-side to accent their similarity:

	-----------	-----------
	| table 1 |	| table 2 |
	|         |	|         |
	-----------	-----------
	caption 1 	caption 2

LaTeX wants to put them one above the other.  How do I get what I
want?
