Yes, you can do it directly with apt-get by:

* Pointing your sources.list to potato
* Running 'apt-get update'
* Running 'apt-get install packages' where packages are the ones you want
  to install.
* Pointing your sources.list back to slink
* Running 'apt-get update'

This should only upgrade tha packges needed to meet the dependencies.
