Segmentation fault with ftp client.

I am running Debian 2.1 slink on a IBM ThinkPad. I upgraded my kernel to
2.2.12
and upgraded the packages suggested at
"http://www.debian.org/releases/2.1/running-kernel-2.2";. However, since
I upgraded my
kernel and the suggested packages, the ftp client I am using
(ftp_0.10-3) gives me
a segmentation fault whenever I try to ftp to any site. The last 3 lines
of the output after
entering my password are all ways the same:
"Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
Segmentation fault"

ftpd works fine because connection can be made from other machines to
mine. The problem is
just with the ftp client.

Could someone tell me how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance. Please send a copy of any suggestion to
"carlton.davis@bell.ca"
