cvs

I am looking for a tutrial about cvs beyond the very basic work.
The man page is a bit dificult to follow, and I don't have the time to
read every sub option now.
The main thing that I am looking to do is to implement password on
importing and exporting of code (its to be used to centrelise development
in a group on a university computer, where I need to give only certain
people access, and I don't have the option to define a dedicated group, so
its kind of a work around, any other sujestion as to how to implement
this?)
