Problem with CMOS clock

Hi all -

I couldn't find any reference to this sort of problem in the archives, and
was wondering if anyone else had seen something similar.

I am running Debian (installed vi the current stable release, 2.1r3) on an
IBM PS1 Expert machine (486SX20).

About a week ago I downloaded the source for kernel 2.0.36, and compiled
an 'optimized' version of the kernel. All works the same with the new
kernel, except for the following changes...

	1) I have to use a boot option for the new kernel to see both
ethernet cards (which is no big deal)
	2) Whenever the OS is restarted, the POST of the machine indicates
that there is a configuration problem with the date & time. This is a big
deal because it hangs the POST until someone presses ESC at the machine.

It seems obvious to me that there is something different in the optimized
kernel, since when I revert to the kernel built by the installation
process, everything works fine. What is not obvious to me however, is
what setting I could have made during the make config process that could
cause this.

If anyone has any insight, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
