Any time you're going to upgrade a wine package (or any other package that's either alpha status (like wine) or extremely critical to the continued operation of your system), I recommend you use dpkg-repack first,, to save a copy of the currently-installed version. Then, after you find out that the new package isn't what you hoped it would be, you can dpkg --install the one you saved and get right back to where you were beforehand.
