console cd player? pleace CC me

Hello, I have debian 2.0 and I am trying to play cd from
the console, so far I have tryed to compile 2 different
cd players with no luck. nothing but errors and warnings.
the ones I have tried are.

   cdplayer 0.1 beta 1
   Copyright (c) 1997 Flavio Lerda

and

   cd-console 1.5
   Author:
    Name: Osku Salerma
    Email: osku@iki.fi
    WWW: http://www.iki.fi/osku/

can anyone tell me where to find a player for my debian?
all the players I have tried for X work so it's not my cd rom
it's the compiling (or linking?).
