I tried the commands as written,
but the mount command produced the error message
   mount: can't find rw in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
Did you mean
   mount -n -o remount,rw /dev/xxxxx
where /dev/xxxxx should be replaced by the filesystem to be mounted?
With that, everything went just fine.
