xfree86 3.3.5 in debian

Hi all,

although I'm not so familiar with such things I've dowlnloaded the recent
xfree86 version 3.3.5 from xfree86 org pages because of the voodoo banshee
support in that version. I followed their download and installation instructions
and managed the first errors and problems - but at the end the xserver won't
start. My suspicion is that the problems comes from different file structure.
I've seen the postings here in that forum asking for somebody who has debianized
the 3.3.4 - so it seems there need to be some changes to be made. The first
thing I've found is that the XFree86Config file was in the "wrong" directory
that means in a different one as of the old installation (/etc vs. /etc/X11).
Also the XF86Config didn't run (it seems that it can't start the minimum
vga-xserver) so that I used the command line programm xf86setup. What I get to
see after startx is the grey/white starting window with the cross at mouse
pointer position and nothing else happens.
I piped the error output from startx to a file and it is as follows:

Can anybody help with this?
Or next question: which directory conventions have to be followed to get that
stuff working into a debian environment?

cheers
