Take a look at the LDP guides - they vary in quality and modernity, but
there should be enough to get you going.  I remember the Installation
and Getting Started and Network Administration books as being
particularly helpful - http://www.linuxdoc.org/ .  There's also John
Goezern and Ossima Othman's Debian GNU/Linux: Guide to Installation and
Usage book, packaged as debian-guide and avalible in print which seemed
very nice when I leafed through it in a bookshop.  O'Reilly have a book 
called something like "Essential Systems Administration".
