Do those other boxes have as complicated an /etc/X11/Xsession file as
Debian provides? By default, Debian makes sure various random things are
properly set up before going ahead and starting your .xsession || running
the window manager from /etc/X11/window-managers || running
/usr/bin/x-window-manager || running /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator.
Also, if you have ssh installed, ssh-agent may be taking a few extra
cycles to start as well.
