Thanks for the help. At this stage in my research, it looks like the ATI
Rage 128 is not supported by Xfree86, and won't be until version 4.0 is
released. Based on this experience, I suspect I won't be likely to
purchase an ATI card in the future, or recommend them to others. Am I
being premature, anyone?

Just for the list mail archives record, Windows NT4.0 reports the card
as the following:

ATI Rage 128 VR AGP 2X (English)
Internal DAC (250MHz)
8 MB
Chip Type: Rage128 VR (AGP)
Adapter String: 1002-524C-04
BIOS Information: BK1.4.12 VR001.001.012rlt3b1x.112v6.11

and it's installed in a Gateway E-4200, PIII-400MHz, 128 MB RAM,
referred to by Gateway as part# 6001129.
