pppd ttyS1 115200 noauth noipdefault defaultroute remotename provider \
 user myname  connect 'chat "" ATZ OK ATDTPHONE CONNECT'

Notes:	- the line was wrapped to fit on the screen :)
	- replace PHONE with the actual number you want to dial
	- you need to have a line like 

myname	provider password

	  in the /etc/ppp/chap-secrets file
	- I've never used chap authentication, but I do believe the line
	  above would work.  <add standard disclaimer here>
