install-info: failed to lock dir for editing! No such file or directory

Hi, this is my first post to the list. Sorry for my english.

In a 486, Potato, kernel 2.3.6, I'm having problems whith dpkg:

# dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/make_3.77-7_i386.deb
(Reading database ... 12295 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace make 3.77-7 (using .../archives/make_3.77-7_i386.deb)
...
install-info: failed to lock dir for editing! No such file or directory

As it only has 165M, I'd been deleting everything I didn't need, but I
guess I've gone so far. So, which is the directory dpkg search for and
don't find?
