Libraries

I've got a program that's linking with one version of libstdc++. In
/usr/lib there are about 10000 versions of libstdc++, and the one that I
think I need (since the others don't define the symbol I need) is not the
one that is being linked to. How do I get it to link to the right one,
and are there any gotchas I need to know about?
thanks
