Error of compilation of the kernel.

Hi all,

I have installed the base of Debian 2.0 (kernel 2.0.34) and it works.
I need compile the kernel (2.0.36) for add new properties but after the
configuration I executed "make dep ; make clean: make zImage" and showed
an error. This error is "as86 - Command not found".
It is produced while is executing "make zImage".
Why is produced this error? How can I resolve it?
I have installed "as" but not "as86".
