Thank you, it works now.
I also put in /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost mybox mybox.home.net
not sure if it was necessary
it's funny enough that you should not
put extra newlines in /etc/hostname
it fools 'hostname --file /etc/hostname'
and it doesn't set any hostname at all
