eXtensa 390
Hi folks.
I'm trying to set up an Acer eXtensa 390 with 2 PCMCIA cards (Genius
Ethernet ME3000II SE and Digicom Leonardo 28.800bps Faxmodem) using Linux
2.2.10, and I'm stuck with the following problems:
1. The onboard audio chipset (Yamaha OPL3-SAx). I configure it using isapnp
and the values found reading the Windows'95 driver settings:
(READPORT 0x0203) (ISOLATE CLEAR) (IDENTIFY *) (CONFLICT (IO WARNING)
(IRQ FATAL) (DMA FATAL) (MEM FATAL)) (CONFIGURE YMH0800/-1 (LD 0
(IO 0 (SIZE 16) (BASE 0x0000)) (IO 1 (SIZE 8) (BASE 0x0530))
(IO 2 (SIZE 8) (BASE 0x0388)) (IO 3 (SIZE 2) (BASE 0x0330))
(IO 4 (SIZE 2) (BASE 0x0370)) (INT 0 (IRQ 5 (MODE +E)))
(DMA 0 (CHANNEL 0)) (DMA 1 (CHANNEL 7))
(NAME "YMH0800/-1[0]{YAMAHA OPL3-SAx Audio System}") (ACT Y)))
the card is correctly detected by the modules (opl3sa2.o and friends), and
the mixer works (I can hear the CD and modify the volumes). But every time
I try to play or record a sample, the kernel freezes. The IRQ (5) and the
DMA channels (0 and 7) seem not to collide with other resources. However,
every time I do /etc/init.d/pcmcia restart, something resets the mixer...
2. This darned APM... I've tried every configuration of the kernel APM
support, but I never manage to make it sleep or doze or stand by or
whatever. When the LCD switches off I cannot turn it on again unless I
blindly load X and then I switch to the other VTs... sigh...
3. The Hitachi HDD (included in the laptop) does some sort of ping-pong, i.e.
every 5 seconds it parks the heads and when "update" is called they bounce
around for a while...
4. Where can I find a good documentation source about IRQs, DMAs and IO ports
on PC architectures? I really would like to understand why i.e. when I turn
on the onboard IrDA, either it doesn't work or the modem doesn't work,
etc... it seems that setting another IRQ for the IrDA port doesn't work at
all. Are the IRQ numbers and the IO port addresses related to each other?
Thank you all,
Illo.
