Well, I wouldn't worry about this. I also use an IP alias and I can't ping it from the
machine it's on either but I can ping it from any other machine. I won't even venture to
guess why this is. BTW, you shouldn't assign 216.178.140.255 as an address since this is
the broadcast address.
