a) debian-laptop exists for laptop specific stuff

b) if a pcmcia card is supported when you insert the card it will beep once
when the card is known and then again when the /etc/pcmcia script has finished
running.

So if you put the card in and you do not hear at least one beep, Linux is not
seeing it.  At that point, make sure you have a version of pcmcia which knows
your card.
