gnome-ppp someone?
Hello,
I didn't manage to get connected with gnome-ppp, because of 2
problems:
1. There seems to be no possibility to use pap without setting
'noauth' in the /etc/ppp/options file -- I cite from this file's
comments:
# Please do not disable this setting. It is expected to be standard in
# future releases of pppd. Use the call option (see manpage) to disable
# authentication for specific peers.
auth
It was impossible to me to connect without changing this to noauth
2. After having done that, the connection failed with the error
message (in the syslog):
May 27 19:58:44 wabe pppd[1468]: pppd 2.3.7 started by joachim, uid 1000
May 27 19:58:44 wabe pppd[1468]: Failed to open /dev/modem: Permission denied
May 27 19:58:44 wabe pppd[1468]: Exit.
The permissions of /dev/modem are:
$ ls -l /dev/modem
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root tty 10 Sep 17 1998 /dev/modem -> /dev/ttyS1
$ ls -l /dev/ttyS1
crw-r--r-- 1 root tty 4, 65 May 27 20:28 /dev/ttyS1
$ groups
joachim tty disk mail dialout floppy dip dosemu
BTW there are no problems to connect with xisp ...
Hoping for help,
joachim
