It's the internal name of the C++ compiler front end.
Apparently, the code you're trying to compile calls the C++ compiler as
`gcc', whereas it should invoke it as `g++' (they're different in "stable").
Try telling that to the code, i.e. via "env CXX=g++ ./configure" or
"make CXX=g++".
