Hi, I do not know too much about this myself, but I have been able to create a customized root/boot disk pair using Yard (http://www.croftj.net/~fawcett/yard/). This consists of a set of perl scripts that automate most of the process. I also needed the yard-1.17-patch1 (available from the same web page) to be able to use kernel modules.
