RE: Preventing xdm from starting



You can go to a open console with ALT+CONTROL+Fn. Then, if you really want
to stop X, you have to go to /etc/init.d/ and execute:
$/etc/init.d>./xdm stop.
If later on you want to restart it execute:
$/etc/init.d>./xdm start.
