Broken libtiff3g-dev

I have, in the process of upgrading my potato system, broken the
libtiff3g-dev package. dselect gives the following errors while
trying to upgrade the package:

Some errors occurred while unpacking. I'm going to configure the
packages that were installed. This may result in duplicate errors

My problem is that, I don't seem to be able to reinstall this package,
so I'm not sure how to proceed. I tried

$ dpkg --force-remove-reinstreq --remove libtiff3g-dev

But it still didn't work (which is what I thought
--force-remove-reinstreq would take care of). So I'm stuck; I don't
know how to get rid of it, upgrade it, anything. Any suggestions?
