Shoot me if this is irrelevant, but are you sure that's the problem?  I
recall Access wants to write <whatever>.lck files in the same directory
as the database.  Do your Access users have write access to the share?

By the way, going by your E-mail address, I feel like I've worked for
your organization...  ;-)
