I can't speak to the usability of your script, but I do know that if your father is
running Windows, that still might cause problems. When I was dialing up from a
Windows PC (before I was into Linux), anytime someone would pick up another phone
even for a second, it would kill my connection. Dialing up from Linux I've actually
survived not only a phone pick-up, but a partial number dialing.
