Hernan, Thanks. I tried your suggestion and it worked. I wonder whether the alternative given in the man page for ftpd ( to use pwd.db, I never could find out where to get this ) would work. You had suggested libncurses.so.4, but I had only libncurses.so.3.4, but this seems to work. Sebastian
