The current upstream maintainer of smail has stated that development of it
is done. There will be no more major work in it. He will maintain the code
as people migrate to other MTA's. Exim is derived from smail3 and has a
familliar configuration concept. THe main difference being that Exim uses
one config file for its routers, directors, and main config rather than
individual files.
