This is completely true and unfortune for Debian right now.

I have often wondered what would be involved in having the Debian CDs
included in some of the more popular Linux books like slackware has done
for years. If this could be done Debian could grow and gain a larger user
group. Maybe even close that gap with RedHat some.
I think one of the largest problems is Debian lack of exposure to the
general public. Having talked to people at a few trade shows and hardware
shows i notice that when i mention Debian people tend to say
"Never heard of it before" :-(
